Double Page Spread Analysis

The first thing you see on this spread is the image of the front man in trhe band. This will attract readers that recognise him from the bands Blink-182 and +44. The image is a medium long shot with the vocalist focused in and the drummer, who fans will also recognise from Blink-182 and +44, in the background. This image works well on the page and dominates the double page spread.

The double page spread uses a kicker in the bottom right corner to make the article stand out. The red background also makes the comments from fans easier to read.

The banner and masthead on the page use a bold, upper case font which stand out. This attracts a reader. The text on the page is small but in a clear font so is easy to read. The masthead has a broken effect on the text which sticks to Kerrangs corporate mage. The dark colours on the page link with the genre of music.

Kerrang cover analysis 2

The first thing you see on the cover of this magazine is the image of the band. The photo is a medium close up and the banner with the bands name, "YOU ME AT SIX", is overlaying it. This banner has upper case text so it stands out. The yellow and white colours over the top of the dark clothes on the image will attract the reader. The masthead of the magazine is the "KERRANG" logo with a smashed glass effect. This could show the magazine as aggressive.

Underneath the main image and banner there are images and banners of other bands. These are easy to see even though they are small because the background colour of the text contrasts the text. The pictures are medium close ups again and all of the pictures are from the same angle, therefor none of them overrule the main image. At the top and at the bottom of the magazine, in traditional Kerrang style, the other bands features in the magazine are listed. The background of the text also contrasts the text so that the consumer can see this, which could make them buy the magazine.

"FREE POSTER SPECIAL" is emphasised by the red text on free. This will attract a reader as everyone likes to get free items. There is a white background at the top of the magazine to make the feature band stand out. Overall the colours on the magazine are dark as this links with rock/metal.

Kerrang cover analysis 1

The masthead on the magazine is "KERRANG". This uses a bold text in upper case to show aggressiveness. There is a shattered affect on the text like shattered glass showing aggressiveness again. The banner used is of the main band in the magazine. The text "CONVERGE" is in upper case and in a bold red colour. Red has connotations to anger and danger so this shows the band as angry and heavy. The image used covers the title so it is important. The image of the vocalist with tattoos and a microphone shows the band as angry again.
The target audience is people into rock/metal music and mainly teenagers. The colours on the magazine are dark and bold which appeals to this target audience. All the text is in upper case which attracts buyers to the magazine.

"FREE POSTERS!" is emphasised by the background colour, which is red, because the background for this text is different to the rest of the text and stands out. This will attract a buyer as they will get freebies.

Around the main image and banner there are other pictures and banners. These act as a frame around the main article. These include pictures and names of bands. At the top and bottom of the front cover it lists the other bands features in the magazine. Although these are small they stand out as they use different background colours. There are a lot of different bands on the front of the magazine to show the diversity of the type of bands in the magazine.
